Nicola knew from an early age what her career would be and drew her first fashion illustrations age 8!
At school her favorite subjects were Art and Fashion technology which led her to do a BTEC fashion & textiles course.
She then applied to Nottingham Trent University with Fashion as her first choice and Knitwear as her second.
She was devastated not to have got her first choice, little did she know that this was going to become her area of specialty!
She optimistically started her degree but had a crisis of confidence in the first week when everyone else seemed to be making scarves to wear and Nicola couldn't even get past the first cast on row. Not one to give up easily she channelled her energy and stayed late most nights practicing her knitting skills. By the end of the first project she had progressed so well that she was graded with a First! This was enough motivation to set her off on the path to becoming a fully qualified knitwear designer.
The 4 year degree incorporated a work placement year where Nicola worked for a design company in New York followed by a swatch agency in Nottingham.
She really enjoyed the creative and hands on element of making swatches and this was to influence her decision to work for herself once graduating from university.
